School board losing superintendent

Laura Mills, the superintendent of business for the Rainy River District School Board, will be leaving her position at the end of August to accept the position as superintendent of corporate services with the Lakehead District School Board in Thunder Bay.
Mills came to Fort Frances in June, 1999 from the Algoma District School Board, where she had been employed since 1994.
Previous to her employment there, she had financial accounting experience with Child Care Algoma, the Town of Bruce Mines, and Peat Marwick Thorne (chartered accountants).
As superintendent of business for the Rainy River District School Board, Mills was responsible for the fiscal management of the board, as well as overseeing education centre staff and the transportation department.
Highlights during her seven-year tenure included the realignment of financial resources, which were reinvested back into the board to promote student achievement.
“Laura will be missed greatly by trustees and colleagues,” said Director of Education Jack McMaster. “Her ability to fiscally balance the budgets since her arrival has provided the board the opportunity to delve into projects that have impacted greatly on student learning.
“Laura understands educational needs extremely well and has budgeted for the improvement initiatives with the senior administration team.
“I wish Laura success in her new role with the Lakehead District School Board,” added McMaster. “It will be to everyone’s benefit that her expertise will remain in Northwestern Ontario.”
“It has been a pleasure to work for the Rainy River District School Board and be part of the team to focus on student achievement,” Mills stated.
“Working with trustees, school communities, senior administration, and staff has been a rewarding experience for me in maintaining fiscal responsibility of the board.”
