The Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program presented its annual spring concert last Tuesday (May 1) at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, which was filled to capacity with parents and friends.
The theme of the program was “Celebrate With Us New Life in Christ,” and the young performers did a fantastic presentation in reciting scripture verses and singing choruses of praise.
Vice-principal Kendal Olsen and staff must be congratulated for their fine effort. It was a night to remember.
Emcees Kevin Friesen and Alysa Kaemingh graciously announced each item on the program, starting with Dorothy Quibell’s kindergarten to Grade Two students reciting John 1: 7-16 and singing two selections, “Love Your Neighbour” and “Lessons About Love.”
They were followed by the grades 3-5 (directed by Heidi Gerber) with two songs, “Victory In Jesus” and “I Believe in a God.” They also recited scripture taken from John 3: 1-16.
Grade 11/12 students presented a choreography “Live Life” by Zoe Girl, which was a colourful performance, then later another presentation on “Go and Sin No More” by Rebecca St. James.
Then the grades 6-8, with director Heidi Gerber, recited “The Touch of the Master’s Hand,” after which the Recorder Choir played two numbers, “God is so Good” and “Faith of Our Fathers.”
After the SCAP staff presented the selection, “May the Mind of Christ,” the grades 9-12 choir, directed by Miss Gerber, presented “You Are My All in All,” “Your Love is Life to Me,” “Because He Lives/I Live,” and “Wonderful Merciful Saviour.”
Pianist Cora VanSmeerdyk was accompanied by Mike MacInerny (flute) and Duane Krikke (drums). Instrumentalists for two choirs included Jodi Barker, Jackie Ikert, Jenna Kaemingh, Jon Barron, and Heidi Gustafson.
A freewill offering taken, with proceeds going towards the school building and grounds. After the concert, the audience gathered in the fellowship hall.
Kendal Olsen thanked everyone for coming as well as for all the prayers that had been said on his behalf for his welfare after a serious car accident last month.
The other driver is recovering from her injuries, he noted, and that we also remember her in prayers.
Dr. Philip Whatley dismissed everyone with a prayer.
