With an update on the ring scale project at the Stratton sales yard, area cattlemen have good news to look forward to at their annual meeting next Wednesday, Peter Spuzak said Tuesday.
Spuzak, president of the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association, said the cement already has been poured in the auction barn as local workers await the arrival of the scale.
“We’re supposed to hearing from the scale company about the installation of the frame of the scale soon,” he noted. “Possibly, the scales could already be there.
“They did promise the scale at mid-month, and we’re almost there.”
Once the scale arrives, Spuzak said the RRCA will “measure up our own construction to it” in an effort to make the marketing of cattle more efficient at the Stratton yard.
The plan is to having everything up and running for the spring cattle sale, Spuzak said, which tentatively is set for the end of April.
“It will give us a good test run up to our fall scale,” he reasoned.
Most of the RRCA’s membership has heard about the ring scale project, Spuzak said, making Wednesday night’s update a pretty “exciting development for [district] cattlemen.”
“I think we’re all looking forward to seeing how this will go through and how it works in the future,” he remarked. “It should make things a lot easier and give us a better way of marketing our cattle.
“And, especially with our prices being more favourable than in the past, it gives us something more positive to look at,” he added.
In related news, the RRCA will elect its new board of directors for the upcoming year at next Wednesday’s meeting.
Once the directors are chosen, they will elect the new executive at their first meeting afterwards.
