Saturday’s stock car races washed out

Dave Ogilvie

Much to the disappointment of hundreds of fans, not to mention all the drivers, pit crews, and volunteers, the stock car races in conjunction with the Emo Fair could not be completed Saturday night.
Billed as the biggest weekend of the year at the Emo Speedway, the Rea Memorial weekend was cut to only one night (Friday) due to thunderstorms and heavy rain that fell throughout the three-day fair.
More than 60 cars attended Friday night, almost doubling the normal weekend events. Twenty-six WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, 14 Street Stocks, and 22 WISSOTA Modifieds hit the track.
Congratulations to #18 Scott Messner in the Street Stocks, #99C Tridell Champlin in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and #85 Jamie Davis in the WISSOTA Modifieds!
This Saturday’s races at the Emo Speedway will be the Keith McNally Memorial (weather permitting), with the kids’ tires races taking place during intermission.
You are invited to bring the whole family to the Emo Speedway to enjoy the flag-to-flag action of your favourite drivers! Hot laps start at 7 p.m., with racing getting underay at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors/students $6, $4 for children aged six-12, and free for those five and under. Family packages cost $25.
Pit access is $20 for each driver and $20 per pit crew member ($15 per pit crew with valid membership).
The grandstand gates open at 6 p.m., with the pits opening at 5 p.m.
Everyone is welcomed in the pits, to view the cars and talk to the drivers, after the completion of the evening’s races.

The men’s breakfast held at the Emo Legion on Saturday was attended by a large group from across the district.
Those on hand were treated to an excellent meal and an inspiring message from Pastor Kors Pater of Rainy River.
The next breakfast will take place on the third Saturday in September. All men from across Rainy River District are welcome to attend.
Please think about bringing a friend!

The Art Bonot Memorial slo-pitch tournament was completed on Friday and Saturday despite the constant rain.
Fubar won the title by beating Beerfect 24-16 in the final. The Slugs finished third.
It was Fubar’s second win in the short three-year history of the Art Bonot Memorial. Although conditions were less than perfect, everyone had a great time playing in the annual event.
