‘Run for the Cure’ BBQ a success

Dave Ogilvie

The Emo branch of the CIBC held another successful “Run for the Cure” barbecue outside the bank last Friday (July 10) from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Business was brisk and support from local businesses, community members and people from across the district was excellent.
The proceeds from the BBQ will go to the “Run for the Cure” fund.
The CIBC “Run for the Cure” is Canada’s largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, and education and awareness programs.
Each year, thousands of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life unite to participate in this Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation event. People participate in this worthwhile event for all kinds of reasons, but they all have the same goal: to create a future without breast cancer.
The run, which was started by a small group of volunteers in 1992, included 1,500 participants in Toronto and raised $85,000 in its first year. Last year, 55 communities and 170,000 Canadians participated in the annual event. Together, they raised incredible $28.5 million for breast cancer research, education, and awareness programs.
This year’s local run, which will begin at Rejuvenate Fitness, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 4.
For more information, watch for posters around town or call Jennifer at the CIBC branch (482- 2770). Come out and support this worthwhile cause by running, walking and giving generously.

Men across the district are invited to attend this month’s meeting of the “Men’s Breakfast Club.” The monthly buffet breakfast, which will be held this Saturday (July 18) at 8 a.m. at the Emo Legion, will feature guest speaker Bruce Christopherson, station manager at KBHW—Psalm 99.5 in International Falls.
Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and thank the man who has done so much for Christian radio in the Borderland over the past 26 years.
Bruce began working at the station a few months after it started. He has served as station engineer and program director for many years and as the station manager for the past 15 years.
Come out and encourage others to attend as Bruce shares his experiences and faith.
