Roseberry Runway presented ‘Eat Smart’ award

Public health nurse Heidi Ivall was in Barwick last Thursday morning to present Jackie Champagne, owner/operator of Roseberry Runway, with the provincial “Eat Smart!” award.
“This award-winning restaurant promotes healthy living in the community,” noted Ivall, by meeting exceptional standards in food safety, non-smoking seating, and healthier food choices.
“At ‘Eat Smart!’ restaurants, you’ll find staff that are trained to handle food properly and safely, and a public health inspection track to show it,” added Ivall.
A variety of healthier food choices also are on the menu there and available by request. And the Roseberry Runway is 100 percent smoke-free.
As first reported in the Nov. 15 edition of the Times, the Roseberry Runway was among several restaurants in Northwestern Ontario to receive the “Eat Smart!”
The others included La Flambée, The Harbourage, and La Place Rendez-Vous in Fort Frances, the Roadside Restaurant in Rainy River, The Second Street Bakery in Kenora, and Dick and Nellie’s Restaurant in Sioux Lookout.
All family-style restaurants were able to participate in the program.
“This program again will be offered in the spring,” Ivall hoped, adding restaurants interested in this “Eat Smart!” program should contact the Northwestern Health Unit in their area.
