Rilla Race is seeking re-election as councillor for Ward 2 in Chapple.
She lives with her husband, Albert, a millwright at Abitibi-Consolidated, and his two children—Karen, who resides in Toronto, and Chris, who is in Windsor.
Race has spent five years on municipal council and has worked as a council representative to the PAC committee and recreation committee. She also has worked with the emergency planning committee and has been the chair of the Chapple Heritage Committee for seven years.
Race has enjoyed her time as councillor and would like to continue this work for the upcoming term.
The council has a number of projects in the works which particularly interest her, including the Community Incentive Program to encourage new businesses to locate in Chapple and the inventory of infrastructure for long-term planning and emergency preparedness.
Over the past few years, the community has had many changes related to forestry, farming, and water treatment, which are of concern to council.
Race’s top priority is to hopefully make decisions which benefit her community, not only in the short-term, but in the long-term, as well.
She knows the municipality will face many challenges in the coming years and she would like to continue to have a part in the solutions of these issues.
