The survey distributed Nov. 1 as part of a recreation and leisure study of Fort Frances has seen a fair response so far, said Jim Cumming, who sits on the town’s recreation advisory committee.
About 350 surveys turned in, Cumming noted Thursday morning. “We’re beginning to get a sizable sample,” he remarked.
Those households that haven’t filled out their survey yet only have until this coming Tuesday (Nov. 30) to do so. A downloadable version also is available on the town’s website at www.fort-frances.com
They can be returned to the Memorial Sports Centre or Civic Centre during regular business hours.
Completed surveys will be entered to win prizes of $250, $150, and $100 in Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce bucks.
Town council mandated the recreation committee back in January to survey the community’s recreation needs.
In the survey, families are encouraged to tell the committee about their recreational habits in the previous year. These activities include sports recreation, social recreation, and learning recreation.
In addition, the committee is looking for input on the types of recreation that individuals and families think will be worthwhile here. A large list of potential activities is included, but the ideas for recreation are not limited by that list.
The committee understands the Town of Fort Frances cannot create all the programs and make all the ideas happen, but it hopes that by finding what programs or services are needed here, the interested people then can be brought together to make these happen.
The recreation committee also is looking for direction from residents on the types of facilities the town should look at developing.
