Rash of new fires reported over weekend

the MNR

The Northwest Fire Region experienced a busy weekend, with 11 fires reported by yesterday evening.
Three of the blazes are now “out,” with four listed as “being held” and three as “not under control.”
The majority of the fires occurred in the Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout districts, and were human-caused.
There also were two fires in Nipigon District and one in Kenora District.
Warm weather and a drying trend has increased the fire hazard across the region.
Forecasted weather is to remain mainly sunny and dry, with light and variable winds and temperatures increasing to low 20s C.
A fire advisory may be issued in the coming days as a result.
