Rash of new fires

Eight new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
These were located in the Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, Red Lake, and Nipigon districts.
Of note, Red Lake Fire #20, located near Pikangikum First Nation, was listed as “not under control” at five hectares.
The remaining ones either were “out,” “under control,” or being “held.”
Meanwhile, 11 new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by the end of the day Saturday.
These occurred in Dryden District, (two), Kenora District (fire), Red Lake District (four), Sioux Lookout District (fire), and Thunder Bay District (three).
Many of these fires are “out,” “under control,” or “being held.”
The fire of note Saturday was Kenora Fire #26, which grew to 9.8 hectares and required multiple crews and air attack to suppress it.
The forest fire hazard is “high” to “extreme” across the region.
Warm temperatures and sunny skies today are expected to continue to escalate the fire hazard across the region.
Residents are advised to follow local burning restrictions, and exercise extreme caution with campfires and open burning.
