There were 13 new fires in the Northwest Region yesterday, with another new blaze reported this morning.
That brings the total number of active fires in the region to 50.
These 14 fires include four in Sioux Lookout District, five in Nipigon District, four in Thunder Bay District, and one in Red Lake District.
With a “moderate” to “high” fire hazard across the region, and the fire situation, particularly in the far north, will become more active with dry, hot weather.
As such, the public is urged to take an active role in preventing more fires.
This can be done by not burning when it’s windy, monitoring your fire, and ensuring you have water nearby to extinguish it.
As a reminder, there is no day burning of brush and grass.
Keep your campfires small and actively attended.
