Water levels in the Rainy Lake continue to increase, but at a much lower rate than previous weeks.
According to the National Weather Service, in Duluth, MN, the level of Rainy Lake is expected to rise by 1 to 3 inches (3-7 cm) between June 6 and June 13. Beyond the 7-day forecast rises will continue at a slower rate, but a peak is unlikely before mid June.
The level on Namakan is now falling and is expected to fall 6-11 more over the next week, barring future precipitation; the weather forecast is dry.
Rainy Lake level is 1113.1 ft (339.28m), 21 inches (54 cm) above the 2014 peak and 2 inches above the previous record set in 1950 (1112.95 ft/339.23m). Namakan Lake and Kabetogama Lake are currently at 1122.3 ft (342.07m), which is 21inches (53cm) above the 2014 peak level and 7 inches below the record set in 1916. The level of Namakan Lake and Kabetogama Lake is expected to fall about 6 to 11 inches (14-22 cm) between June 6 and June 13. The rate of falling levels will gradually increase each day barring any heavy rainfall.
