Just one new fire was confirmed yesterday in the Northwest Region—Thunder Bay Fire #56.
The 0.1-hectare blaze, the cause of which remains unknown, was classified as “not under control” as of this morning.
As widespread rain moved into the region late yesterday, the fire situation was expected to become even quieter over the next few days, said the Ministry of Natural Resources.
There was some late-evening action in Thunder Bay and Nipigon districts on Tuesday.
FireRangers responded to two fires in each district, bringing the total that day to four confirmed fires.
All four were caused by hold-over lightning and no problems are anticipated.
In related news, managed fires continue to be monitored in the districts of Sioux Lookout and Kenora.
These fires are confined to islands, and are managed under fire response plans for Lac Seul and Lake of the Woods.
No problems were anticipated with these blazes.
There are still 54 active fires in the region, although none are in Fort Frances District.
