RailRoad Daze and Walleye Tournament cancelled

With Canada/U.S. Border restrictions extended to at least late August and possibly beyond, many community organizations have had to make the hard decisions on scheduled events and festivals. This past week Rainy River’s RailRoad Daze Festival posted on Facebook that none of their scheduled events would take place this year, However a “Drive In Theatre” event is scheduled for July 17 at the Rec Centre. Keep an eye on the RailRoad Daze Facebook page for more details. The Great Beaver Cardboard and Tuck Tape Boat Races that have always been a great hit at RailRoad Daze also will not be held this year

The Rainy River Walleye Tournament also cancelled this year’s Sept 17-19 event with full refunds available to all entrants already paid up. It had been considered hosting the event even if the border did not re-open, but Social Distancing Responsibility would have made gathering at the Big Tent impossible.

The same holds for the Rainy River Giant Pumpkin Festival scheduled for the weekend following the RRWT. An informal celebration like a Giant Pumpkin Parade is being considered but a crowded Community Festival approach is simply out of the question for 2020

The one event that WILL be held is the RRBB Lions Club Raffle of the Grand Prize Princecraft Vectra 21 Pontoon Boat, plus 2nd Prize of $1500 Cash and 3rd Prize of $500 cash. Location of the draw will be announced shortly, perhaps online. With only 4000 tickets to be sold, the Pontoon Boat is being displayed at various businesses across the District. Watch for it in your community and don’t be disappointed. Get your tickets while they are still available. Tickets may be purchased from local businesses, Lions members or online by texting (807)276-7580 or email: RRBBLionsTickets@gmail.com.
