Chapple council, at its last meeting, swore in Rilla Race as councillor for Ward Two for the duration of this term.
Chuck Harrison spoke to council concerning his contract at the cemeteries. He is willing to work with Phillip Huziak to ensure he knows all of the work to be done and what would be expected of him.
As council doesn’t have a formal contract with Harrison, it is not something that they can dictate, other than if the job is not done correctly.
Harrison would continue to do the burials and look after the flowers for this year at least.
Council explained it requires a W.S.I.B. number for whomever does the work. Council also expressed their appreciation to Harrison for a job well done.
Doug Hume spoke to council requesting permission for his company (Nuinsco) to take an option of the Shenston dump site. Hume also outlined what has been done over the past few years and what they expect to do for this upcoming year.
Chapple Reeve Cecil Wilson and Coun. Bill Clink reported on the tour taken with Ray Valitis from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Valitis agreed some of the agricultural lands should be changed to rural.
And Chapple Clerk Doris Dyson reported on a meeting in La Vallee to arrange for the dispatch service for the implementation of 911, which is scheduled for Dec. 11, 2001.
Finally, students from Sturgeon Creek school are planning to “pitch in” to help clean up the village. The local Boy Scouts also volunteered to help clean up on May 15.
