Queen pageant looking for co-ordinator

The Fun in the Sun royalty pageant is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, well-organized individual to co-ordinate this year’s pageant.
“We are looking for someone to take over the pageant this year and perhaps following years,” said Dawn Booth, a Fun in the Sun committee member.
“The pageant is such an important part of Fun in the Sun and Fort Frances,” she added. “We’d love to see someone come in, take it over, spice it up a bit . . . add some excitement to it.
“Maybe even a past queen.”
The pageant co-ordinator, with the help of the previous year’s queen and princesses, is responsible for rounding up six or more eligible contestants, ordering buttons for each contestant, planning events and activities for the participants to take part in, ensuring the contestants are attending public events, and organizing the entertainment night and crowning.
The co-ordinator also is responsible for ensuring the winning queen and princesses attend important community events throughout the year they hold the title.
Since Booth is positive someone will come forward to organize this year’s Fun in the Sun queen pageant, she noted contestants are now being sought.
“I’m 100 percent positive that someone will come forward to help us out. In the meantime, we’d kind of like to get things rolling so we’re looking for participants,” she said.
Participants must be between the ages of 15 and 19 by May 1, 2005, a resident of Rainy River District, of good character, and willing to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner.
The Fun in the Sun queen pageant provides an opportunity for young teen girls to get involved with the community, meet new people, and experience new things.
They are involved in a variety of different activities leading up to the pageant, including an entertainment night, button sales, Canada Day parade, community service, and assisting with other area events.
Participants are rewarded for their efforts with various scholarships and prizes, and the title “Miss Fun in the Sun.”
Contestants, if crowned queen or princess, must be available to make personal appearances at important community events and represent Fun in the Sun in a professional manner throughout the year they hold the title.
