Queen pageant a go

It looks like this year’s “Fun in the Sun” queen pageant is a “go” as organizer Melissa Gushulak confirmed Monday she has enough contestants to make it happen.
“We have five girls,” said Gushulak. “Now we just have to have a meeting and events will start within the next two-three weeks.”
Since the first meeting regarding the queen pageant won’t take place until next Monday (May 15), Gushulak said she’s open to seeing even more contestants sign up prior to then.
Anyone interested in participating in the pageant should contact her at 274-5206 by the end of this week.
“The more there is, the better it will be,” she remarked. “There’s never really a deadline until we start setting dates.”
Gushulak added she’s holding off releasing the contestants’ names until they all confirm their sponsors.
Contestants are eligible if they are between 15-19 years of age as of May 1, 2006, have a sponsor, and will be available to participate in community events throughout the next year (up to July 1, 2007).
Gushulak wanted to line up the contestants earlier than usual this year in order to get them involved in more activities prior to the July 1 crowning.
Contestants will be involved in delivering “Meals on Wheels,” a garage and bake sale, spaghetti supper, button sales, an entertainment night, designing their own banners, a car wash, the Fort Frances Public Library’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic, kids’ activities and a bake sale for the BIA’s “Mall Day,” a picnic basket auction, and the Canada Day parade.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to call Gushulak at 274-5206 and leave a message.
