The local Right Relations Circle’s potluck feast, held last Thursday (Dec. 18) at Knox United Church in Emo, was declared a success by event organizers.
The evening, which offered a chance to “Get to Know Our Neighbours,” was attended by people from across the district.
Members of the Ojibwe class at Donald Young School in Emo entertained those in attendance with “Silent Night” sung in their native language. Also on hand was a PowerPoint presentation by Jeff Denis, a Harvard grad student who has been in the district for more than a year doing research for his PhD thesis on local native and non-native race relations.
The Right Relations Circle will continue to hold its monthly meetings in 2009. Anyone interested in joining this group should contact Janet Loney at 482-2585.

“Christmas in a real world” was the theme of the message delivered by Pastor Conrad Dueck to those on hand for the monthly men’s breakfast group, which met at the Emo Legion on Saturday (Dec. 20).
He spoke about how, despite the chaos and pain of the real world, we all can experience an exceptional Christmas if we concentrate our thoughts on the true meaning of the gift of the baby in the manger.
More than 20 men listened and watched intently as Pastor Dueck made use of a PowerPoint slide presentation to deliver his message.
He ended the morning with a powerful music video entitled “It’s About the Cross” by a group called Go Fish.
After enjoying a wonderful buffet of scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, and toast, the men also listened to a short presentation by Troy Clink, who also made use of his computer to introduce a video of a speaker from “Promise Keepers.”
Clink encouraged everyone to attend an upcoming Promise Keepers’ conference, which will be held in Winnipeg in March.
If you have not yet attended a men’s breakfast meeting and would like to do so, mark Saturday, Jan. 17 on your calendar. The guest speaker for the morning will be announced at a later date.

A community Christmas dinner again will be held on Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo. An enjoyable afternoon is planned with a variety of entertainment—and everyone is welcome to attend.
Donations of time, talent, food, and money would be appreciated.

Public skating will be held Monday, Dec. 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre, with shinny hockey set for Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 4-6 p.m.
Ice time also may be available for public skating or shinny hockey on Friday, Jan. 2. If you are interested in booking a time, call Jack at the arena (482-2510).
Regular public skating goes Fridays from 4-6 p.m. and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. (dates and times are subject to change).
A reminder the centre will closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Note the Emo landfill site will be open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. -5 p.m., though it will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

The Sunlight School of Dance will be offering three new sessions, in various dance forms, for dancers of all ages.
The winter session will be held from Jan. 13-24 and Feb. 3-March 14, with the Spring Break session running from March 16- 21. The regular spring session then will follow from March 24-May 16.
The school will hold an open house for registration on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 1-3 p..m. at the Emo curling club. Registration forms also can be picked up and returned to the Emo municipal office.
