A small group of just 26 people braved the icy conditions to attend the Rainy River District Women’s Institute’s “Heritage Luncheon” on Saturday at the United Church here in Emo.
The wintery conditions, unfortunately, made it difficult for some people to attend.
The women from the W.I., who spend so much time and effort raising money for the Heritage Museum in Emo, have appreciated the continued support of everyone from across the district and hope to see a good crowd out at their next fundraising event.

A couple of new musicians joined the usual group of entertainers at Friday night’s “Country Jam” at the Emo Legion.
Despite the wintery weather, many of the usual dancers turned out for another evening of old-time country music.
The next jam is scheduled for Friday, March 18. Be sure to mark the date on your calendar and plan on attending.
The organizers once again would like to thank the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 for use of the hall.

The Emo-La Vallee-Chapple Healthy Communities Coalition hosted an interesting presentation for the “Country Club” last Wednesday (Feb. 16).
The common room at the Golden Age Manor in Emo was full of seniors and guests ready to learn a little about Denmark.
Although feeling a little under the weather, Gerd O’Sullivan did an excellent job telling about the country where she was born and spent her early years.
She described Denmark as a modern country with excellent educational, medical, and public transportation systems.
A country of only 5.5 million people, Denmark has a large ship-building industry and is well-known for its container ships.
Although the government is the country’s major employer, the economy slowly is diversifying and has made a serious effort to expand their solar and pharmaceutical industries.
After an interesting presentation and some questions from the audience, everyone on hand then enjoyed tea, coffee, and dainties, including some Danish pastry.
A hearty round of applause thanked O’Sullivan for her “tour of Denmark.”
Anyone interested in attending the next “Country Club” presentation should watch for an announcement in the coming weeks.

From all accounts, Family Day activities on Monday at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre were a success as young families from across the area took advantage of the free ice time.
A big thank-you goes out to the Emo-La Vallee-Chapple Healthy Communities Coalition for organizing the event, and to the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre Board for making the facility available free of charge.
