On Sept. 18, officers of the Rainy River District OPP were notified by three different business owners that someone had tried to break into their establishments by kicking in the rear doorways.
Police attended all the three businesses, located on the 200 and 300 blocks of Scott Street, and began their investigation by canvassing neighbouring businesses and respective video surveillance footage.
In two of the instances, no entry was gained but the doors were damaged.
In the third instance, entry was gained but no items were reported missing.
Then on Sept. 19 around 2:20 a.m., OPP officers were dispatched to a break-and-enter in progress at a convenience store on the 700 block of Second Street East.
Upon arrival, police learned a male suspect had been observed exiting the store through a broken window, fleeing southbound into a nearby alleyway.
The suspect had used tools to cut locks off from a door and window, and also smashed the front window.
The items stolen included several lottery tickets.
As a result of an investigation by the detachment members, with the support of the Fort Frances Crime Unit, a warrant was executed at a Mosher Avenue residence that same day.
Police successfully recovered property stolen in the break and enter.
A 35-year-old Fort Frances man has been charged with one count of break and enter and three counts of break and enter with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
He was awaiting a court disposition for previous break-and-enter and mischief charges.
As a result, he was remanded into custody waiting to appear before Fort Frances Provincial Court to set a date for a bail hearing.
