(KENORA, ON) – The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision.
On February 20, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the Kenora OPP Detachment, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17A involving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and passenger sport utility vehicle (SUV).
The driver of the CMV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of the CMV was transported to hospital by EMS to be treated for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries.
The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team and OPP Collision Re-Constructionists are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Highway 17A was closed for several hours.
ASSAULT
On February 16, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of an assault incident in the area of Second Street South. Officers and Emergency Medical Services located one individual with non-life-threatening injuries. The individual was transported to local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
As a result, a 36-year old Whitefish Bay First Nation woman has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Assault with a Weapon.
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 20, 2024.
DRUG CHARGES
(DRYDEN, ON) – An investigation led by the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) has led to charges being laid against two local residents.
On February 20, 2024, just prior to 7:00 p.m., a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed at a residence on Government Street, City of Dryden, where a quantity of cocaine, hydromorphone pills, Canadian currency, a prohibited weapon, and evidence of drug trafficking were located.
As a result of the investigation, a 35 and a 33 year old have been arrested and charged with:Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (2 counts) and Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
One has also charged with possession of a prohibited device, possession of a prohibited device contrary to a Prohibition Order, and trafficking in a Schedule I substance.

On February 20, 2024, just prior to 3:00 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle on Highway 17, Melgund Township. As a result of the investigation, a search of the vehicle and occupants was conducted, where a quantity of cocaine and Canadian currency were located.
As a result of the investigation, a 37 years old Dryden woman has been arrested and charged with: Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
The accused has been released from custody on a Form 11 Release Order and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Dryden on March 18, 2024.

COLLISION LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES
(DRYDEN, ON) – One individual has been arrested and charged with possession of suspected illicit drugs following a collision on Highway 17 near McRae Road.
On February 18, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision. The driver of the motor vehicle was transported to local hospital to be treated for non life threatening injuries.
Through further investigation, officers located and seized suspected illicit substances including cocaine, as well as suspected cannabis.
As a result, a 21-year-old Dryden woman has been arrested and charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine; Careless driving; Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on April 15, 2024.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO CHARGES
(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual with multiple offences.
On February 18, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m. members of the Dryden OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 17 near the town of Wabigoon.
After stopping the vehicle, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was in possession of a prohibited device as well as suspected illicit drugs. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden OPP detachment.
As a result, a 32-year-old Sioux Lookout man has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with: Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose; Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, Methamphetamine and Hydromorphone; Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Psilocybin; Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada; Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on February 21, 2024.
