(DRYDEN, ON) – On July 2, 2020 at approximately 8:00 p.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence in Machin Township.
As a result of the investigation and related search, police located and seized a quantity of cocaine, morphine, psilocybin, fentanyl, Canadian currency and drug related paraphernalia.
A 33-year-old Dryden man has been charged with the following offences: two counts Possession of Schedule I Substance- Other Drugs; Possession of a Schedule III Substance; Possession of Schedule I Substance for purpose of trafficking- Other Drugs; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000; Possession of Fire or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order; Failure to comply with release order. Further investigation lead to officers locating and seizing a quantity of fentanyl, methamphetamine, prohibited devices, Canadian currency and drug related paraphernalia.
A 33-year-old man and 39 year-old woman, both of Fort Frances, have been charged with the following offences: Traffic in Schedule I substance- methamphetamine; Traffic in Schedule I substance- other drugs, Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- other drugs x2; Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose x3; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000; Both individuals remain in custody.
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On July 15, 2020, officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Regional Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at a residence on the west end of Queen Street, in Sioux Lookout. As a result of this investigation, police located and seized suspected illicit substances including fentanyl, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and suboxone with an estimated street value of approximately $12,000, as well as approximately $1,200 cash.
Following investigation, a 41 year old man and 22 year old woman from Sioux Lookout have been arrested and charged with: six counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking; Possession of a Schedule I Substance; two counts of Possession of Proceeds of Property obtained by Crime Under $5,000. A 49 year old Sioux Lookout man has also been charged with: four counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance.
All accused have been released on Undertakings, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 25, 2020, to answer to these charges.
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Members of the Sioux Lookout OPP are requesting assistance from the public to solve a theft from a hotel located on Highway 72.
At approximately 4 p.m. on July 16, an unknown individual entered the lobby of the hotel and removed the cash register. They proceeded to break into the cash register, removing approximately $400 in cash before discarding it in the bushes nearby. (RED LAKE / EAR FALLS, ON) – On July 20, members of the Red Lake & Ear Falls OPP were advised of an overdue male who left home in the morning to pick blueberries on Tuzyk Road off Highway 105, between the Township of Ear Falls & Municipality of Red Lake.
With the assistance of the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), officers located a deceased 67 year-old male from Red Lake. A black bear was located in the vicinity of the deceased and was dispatched by officers.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has been contacted and will be sending the bear to Guelph for testing.

(RED LAKE / EAR FALLS, ON) – On July 20 at approximately 1:49 p.m., officers from the Red Lake & Ear Falls OPP were advised of a possible impaired driver operating a lawn mower, within the Township of Ear Falls. Through investigation, the driver was located and placed under arrest. He was then returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result, a 48 year old Ear Falls man was charged with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17.

(Ignace, ON) – On the July 18, members of the Ignace OPP were requested to assist in locating a suspect from an incident that took place in the City of Dryden.
Officers conducted patrols throughout Ignace and along Highway 17. At approximately 1:58 p.m. information was received that the suspect was currently at a gas station in Ignace. The suspect departed the gas station, striking a pedestrian.
Police located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop when police activated their emergency lights. The suspect vehicle fled from the police and continued east bound on Highway 17.
A short time later, members of the Thunder Bay OPP located the suspect vehicle and arrested the suspect.
A 37-year-old Oshawa man has been charged with: Theft Under $5000; Flight from peace officer; Dangerous operation; and Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. The accused remains in custody.
(RED LAKE, ON) – On July 17 at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers from the Red Lake OPP were advised of a traffic complaint and possible impaired driver.
The vehicle was located and through investigation it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result, a 24 year old Red Lake man was charged with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17 to answer to the charges.
(2) That same day, on July 17, at approximately 6:09 p.m., officers from the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint & possible impaired driver within the Municipality of Red Lake.
The vehicle was located and throughout the investigation, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample & the driver failed. The driver was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation a 74-year-old Red Lake man was charged with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17.
(3) On that same day, on July 17 at approximately 9:34 p.m., officers from the Red Lake OPP were advised of a possible impaired vessel operator on the waterbody of Red Lake.
The vessel was located & throughout the investigation, it was determined that the operator had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample & the operator failed. The operator was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation a 21-year-old Red Lake man, was charged with: Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17 to answer to the charges.
(4) The following day, on July 18, at approximately 10:01 p.m., officers from the Red Lake OPP were conducting general patrol within the Municipality of Red Lake.
A traffic stop was initiated for a Highway Traffic Act violation & throughout the investigation, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample & the driver failed. The driver was placed under arrest & returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation a 32-year-old Langley British Columbia man, was charged with: Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17.
(5) On July 19, at approximately 8:04 p.m., officers from the Red Lake OPP were advised of a driver littering from their vehicle within the Municipality of Red Lake.
The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was initiated. Throughout the investigation, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample and the driver failed. The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation a 38-year-old Red Lake man, was charged with: Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He was released by way of Undertaking for Red Lake court on September 17 at 9:00 a.m. to answer to the charges.

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On July 19, 2020 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Fort Frances Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Portage Avenue in Fort Frances. Officers were looking to speak with the male driver in regards to an earlier occurrence.
A further investigation during the stop lead to officers locating and seizing a quantity of suspected fentanyl, Canadian currency and drug related paraphernalia.
As a result, a 35-year-old Fort Frances man, a 38-year-old Rainy River First Nation woman and a 24-year old Nicickousemenecaning man have been charged with the following offences: Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- other drugs; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
Two of the accused have been released on undertaking to appear in court the August 17 in Fort Frances. The Fort Frances man remained in custody.

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are investigating a sudden death in the City of Kenora.
At 9:22 a.m. on Sunday July 19, 2020, the OPP were dispatched to a report of a person not awake and not breathing by Kenora Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the 200 block of First Street South.
Kenora OPP attended immediately and assisted EMS but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem is to take place in Toronto later this week to determine the cause of death.
Updates will be made available as the investigation progresses.
Police are again warning people about the harmful effects of a drug called “yellow down” or “purple down” that is believed to contain fentanyl.
Recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose, including:
• Difficulty walking, talking or staying awake
• blue lips or nails
• very small pupils
• cold and clammy skin
• dizziness and confusion
• extreme drowsiness
• choking, gurgling or snoring sounds
• slow, weak or no breathing
• Inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at

(IGNACE, ON) – On July 18, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m. officers of the Ignace Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was travelling 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit. Ignace OPP officers initiated the stop on Hwy 17, Joynt Township, just East of Upsala while concluding another investigation. As a result of the investigation, a 28 years old Thunder Bay man has been charged with: Operation while impaired, Having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 80 mg; Mischief under $5000; Race a motor vehicle – stunt driving.
The vehicle was impounded by police. The accused is scheduled to attend in Provincial court on October 13, 2020 to answer to the charges.

(KENORA, ON) A member of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) helped save a person on Thursday July 16, 2020 in the City of Kenora.
While on general patrol on Water Street an officer noticed a person that appeared to be in medical distress. Upon attending the Officer suspected an overdose, administered Naloxone, and requested Emergency Medical Services attend. The person was taken to hospital by ambulance, later leaving with no further concerns.
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged five individuals for impaired driving between July 3 and July 8, 2020. Two of these incidents involved single vehicle collisions, two were reported by concerned members of the public, and the fifth vehicle was located by officers while on highway patrol. As a result of these investigations, vehicle drivers exhibiting impairment and with blood alcohol levels testing up to three times the legal limit have been removed from our local roadways.
Event details as follows:
In the early morning hours of Friday, July 3, 2020, officers were called to respond to a minivan in the ditch on Highway 664. Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle with four occupants entirely off of the roadway. Investigation revealed the driver of the borrowed vehicle to be unlicensed and impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and was found to have a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
The driver, a 19 year old Sioux Lookout woman, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada, with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
The accused has been released on an Undertaking, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 11, 2020, to answer to these charges.
(Sioux Lookout) Around midnight on July 4, 2020, emergency services were dispatched to respond to a car in the ditch on Highway 72, with airbags deployed. Local police, EMS, and fire services attended the scene and the lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to hospital for minor injuries. Following police investigation, the driver was found to be impaired. Breath demands were refused by the accused.
The driver, a 31 year old Sioux Lookout woman, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada, with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug; Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused has been released on an Undertaking, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 4, 2020, to answer to these charges.
(Sioux Lookout) On Saturday afternoon, July 4, 2020, officers were called to a report of a possible impaired driver. The described minivan was located in the parking lot of a local business on Fifth Avenue South, with recent damage noted to the vehicle and private property. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired operation. After assessment, the accused was found to have a blood alcohol concentration three times over the legal limit.
The driver, a 26 years old Zealand Township man, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada, with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus; Failure to comply with Probation Order.
The accused has been released on an Appearance Notice, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 18, 2020, to answer to these charges.
(Sioux Lookout) On Sunday morning, July 5, 2020, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a local hotel for a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers attended and located the described SUV exhibiting recent damage to the rear of the vehicle. Following further investigation, the driver of the SUV was arrested for impaired operation. After assessment, the accused was found to have a blood alcohol concentration two times over the legal limit.
The driver, a 30 year old Sioux Lookout man, has been charged with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
The accused has been released on an Undertaking, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 11, 2020, to answer to these charges.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 8, 2020, officers on patrol observed an SUV parked at a rest area along Highway 72. Officers conducted a wellbeing check on the occupant, including a roadside alcohol test. After failing the test, the driver was arrested for impaired operation.
Following investigation, a 46 years old Summer Beaver First Nation woman, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada, with: Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
The accused has been released on an Appearance Notice, and will appear in the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on August 18, 2020, to answer to these charges.

(MARATHON, ON) – On July 16, 2020 at approximately 03:09pm, an officer of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle (MV) for a Highway Traffic Act infraction in the Town of Marathon.
While conducting the stop the officer detected the odor of alcohol and investigated further.
As a result 24 year old Pic River First Nation man was charged with: Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80plus); Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver; Novice driver-B.A.C. above zero; Drive with studded tire
The driver was arrested and later released on a PTA with a court date of September 23, 2020 in Marathon to answer to the charges. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days, as well as issued a 90 day driving suspension.
(Marathon, ON) At 3:27pm July 16, 2020, Marathon OPP received a call regarding a Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) on Highway 17 west of Marathon near Wolf Camp Lake.
The MV had been travelling east bound and made contact with the east bound shoulder. The driver over corrected and began to serve then entered the east bound ditch, flipped and rolled coming in contact with several trees. The MV came to rest in the tree line. After further investigation it was discovered that the driver had been consuming alcohol.
As a result 24 year old Thunder Bay woman was charged with: Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80plus).
The driver was arrested and later released on a PTA with a court date of September 23, 2020 in Marathon to answer to the charges. The vehicle was totalled in the MVC, also a 90 day driving suspension was issued.
