Plenty planned for March Break here

Staff

Some people might be heading to sunny southern destinations or the big city for March Break.
But for those taking a “staycation” this year, there will be plenty to do around here.
Both the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre and Rainy River District Substance Abuse Prevention Team have organized a variety of activities next week.
On Monday from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., children aged 15 and under are invited to participate in a “Chess Extravaganza” at the library.
Registration is required and a pizza lunch will be provided.
Then at 3 p.m., all ages will be able to learn about how 3D printing works in the maker space there (registration also required).
The Substance Abuse Prevention Team, meanwhile, has planned a free “Skate with the Lakers” from 1:15-3:15 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.
On Tuesday, the library has a 3D printing workshop planned, at which participants will make key chains from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
All ages are welcome and registration is required.
Then at 1 p.m., the library will be showing the movie, “Jem and the Holograms,” followed by a tween craft—shamrocks and paper globes—from 3-4 p.m. for those aged nine and up.
On Wednesday, the library will host family storytime at 10:15 a.m.
Then at 1 p.m. all ages are invited to a drop-in button-making session or to the movie event showing “Goosebumps.”
Also on Wednesday, the Substance Abuse Prevention Team will be hosting a free swim from 1-3 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.
And back at the library, a 3D printing workshop where participants will make gold tees will be held at 5 p.m.
All ages are welcome and registration is required.
On Thursday, the library will feature a session on Bristlebots in the maker space, with all ages welcome (registration required).
Then at 1 p.m. they will be offering a tween craft (shamrocks and paper globes) for ages nine and up.
The Substance Abuse Prevention Team will provide curling from 1-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Curling Club for those aged five and up.
Pre-registration is required by calling Tiffany at 274-8541 (space is limited and participants are required to bring clean indoor runners).
Back at the library, a family Bingo will take place at 2 p.m., with “Magic the Gathering” for beginners at 4 p.m.
Then on Friday from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., the 3D printing workshop featuring key chains will be repeated at the library.
Over at Plaza Lanes, the Substance Abuse Prevention Team will offer up free bowling from 1-3 p.m.
Pre-registration is required (call Tiffany at 274-8541).
Then back at the library, all ages are invited to take part in “March Break Gaming” using PS3 and Wii, followed by a 3D printing workshop where participants will make finger diggers (registration required).
At 5 p.m., “Magic the Gathering” will take place.
Wrapping up March Break activities, the local chapter of Canadian Parents for French is hosting a French movie, “Les Incroyables” (“The Incredibles”), on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the library.
Admission is free and all ages are welcome.
The library reminds parents that children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for March Break activities.
