Permits re-issued

Due to the change in weather, the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service has lifted its suspension of the issuing of burning permits within the town for piled wood products and standing grass.
“It looks like our fire risk has passed due to a deposit of snow overnight,” Fire Chief Frank Sheppard said in an e-mail to the Times this morning.
“We are going to allow the issuance of permits for Fort Frances at this time, and continue to monitor weather conditions for future drying potential,” he added.
The fire department suspended the issuance of permits two weeks ago as a precaution after a lack of precipitation, warmer-than-normal temperatures, and a drying trend had resulted in an increased fire risk.
