It didn’t even take a full season’s worth of work for Nathan Park to establish himself as the SIJHL’s most dangerous masked man.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ netminder yesterday was named as the league’s top goalie this season—despite not joining the team until mid-December after spending the first part of the year with the Selkirk Steelers (MJHL).
Park, 20, went 14-4 while leading the league in GAA (1.92), save percentage (.931), and shutouts (three).
Those numbers also were good enough to earn Park a spot on the CCM First All-Star Team.
The Edmonton native beat out Tate Sproxton (Dryden GM Ice Dogs) and Greg Harney (English River Miners) for the honour.
Park joins Wyatt Cota (top defensive forward) and captain Miles Nolan (most improved) in this season’s group of award-winning Lakers.
Forward Lucas DeBenedet (most valuable player), along with head coach/general manager Wayne Strachan (coach of the year), will find out in the coming days if they’ll join that group.
On the ice, the Lakers will begin defence of their Bill Salonen Cup here tomorrow when they open their best-of-seven semi-final against the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Game 2 goes here Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before the series shifts to Thunder Bay for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday.
