Town council will hear from two presenters at tonight’s regular meeting at the Civic Centre.
First up will be west-end resident Merv Ahrens, who “survived” last year’s King’s Highway construction.
He has suggestions for the town to consider for the safety and well-being of businesses, residents, and tourists when doing another such project.
Fort Frances Fire Chief Frank Sheppard then will provide council with a bi-annual report on the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service for the second half of 2015.
The committee of the whole first will hold an in-camera meeting starting at 5:30 p.m., where it will meet for an indefinite amount of time to discuss four items before being re-opened to the public.
The regular meeting of council will follow.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•the designation of a loading/unloading zone in front of 515 Portage Ave. (Suds & Tubs);
•the awarding of a janitorial tender for the Sister Kennedy Centre and Fort Frances Children’s Complex;
•2016 child-care workers wage enhancement application;
•a request from GISbiz for the town’s geospatial data, in connection with work in the development of a work order and record management system for the Fort Frances Power Corp. (FFPC);
•River District Music Festival financial request;
•Heart of the Continent Partnership financial request;
•93.1 The Border advertising request;
•a recommendation re: BIA commitment for the Rainy Lake Market Square project;
•a report re: Shaw Go WiFi opportunity;
•recommendations re: Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Festival in-kind requests;
•expense claims for Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig, Mayor Roy Avis, and Couns. Wendy Brunetta and Ken Perry at the GRA/ROMA conference in Toronto (Feb. 21-24);
•a draft establishing and regulating bylaw for the Fort Frances Fire Department;
•a break-open ticket licence application for the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary; and
•a break-open ticket licence application for the Rainycrest Auxiliary.
