Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, members of the Rainy River District detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a complaint of a possible impaired river in the area of Stewart Street and King’s Highway in Fort Frances.
The vehicle that was subject of the complaint was located and the officers conducted an investigation.
As a result of this investigation, a 23-year-old Couchiching First Nation man was charged criminally with:
- Operate a conveyance with 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood; and
- Operate a conveyance while impaired by drug or alcohol.
Meanwhile, shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, members of the Rainy River District OPP detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check at the corner of Hwy. 621 and Hwy. 600 in Berglund.
A vehicle approached driving slowly passed the officers, eventually stopping.
Officers used an approved roadside screening device and obtained grounds that there was 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The driver was arrested and taken to the Rainy River detachment for further investigation.
As a result of this investigation, a 21-year-old Big Grassy First Nation man was charged with:
- Operate a conveyance with 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood; and
- Operate a conveyance while impaired by drug or alcohol.
He will appear in Rainy River Provincial Court on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. to answer to these charges.
The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways.
