Pair charged with murder

Two men have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 38-year-old Sandy Lake man.
Jason Kakegamic, 28, and Theodore Knott, 20, are in custody after police connected them with the death of Mervin Meekis, whose body was found several kilometers from Sandy Lake on Sunday.
The pair were slated to appear in court today in Kenora.
Meekis’ body was found two days after his common-law wife, Delilah Meekis, was discovered dead after a fire at a Sandy Lake residence last Friday.
The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire and her death.
Police have not released the results of autopsies performed on the couple earlier this week–nor any causes of death–as their investigation continues.
