Residents across much of the Rainy River District, and up into the Kenora area, were left in the dark Monday night after an unidentified issue knocked out power for hours.
While reports began appearing online from those experiencing an outage late yesterday afternoon, the Hydro One Facebook page noted at 6:41 p.m. that crews were responding to “an outage affecting customers in northern Ontario.”
While the official outage map from the power company doesn’t provide historical data, a screengrab of the map taken last night during the outage and shared online appears to show service was disrupted from just west of Fort Frances to the Minnesota border west of Rainy River, and then as far north as Grassy Narrows First Nation, including townships like Nestor Falls, Sioux Narrows and parts of Kenora.
Hydro One then posted an update at 9:28 p.m. to notify the public that the issue had been identified and isolated.
“Power has been restored to the affected customers in northern Ontario,” the post reads.
“Thank you for your patience.”
