From the OPP
Due to a high volume of snow, and changes in the temperature in Fort Frances and surrounding areas, there is a significant amount of slush and high snow drifts on Rainy Lake.
The OPP is advising the public to plan ahead when it comes to recreational snowmobiling.
In the past few weeks, there has been a surge in calls for help from stranded sledders on local lakes.
The substantial snowfall this winter has produced extreme slush conditions that are wreaking havoc on area lakes.
With the drastic drop in temperatures during the night, getting stuck in slush quickly could become a life and death situation.
Members of the public are urged to check the weather and ice conditions prior to engaging in recreational activities in the area.
