From the OPP
Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a four vehicle collision that occurred yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 61 and Harbour Expressway.
An emergency service vehicle was east bound from Highway 11/17 making a left turn to continue east bound onto Highway 11/17 (Thunder Bay Expressway) with the emergency lights activated to proceed through the intersection.
The driver of a Kia Optima was east bound at the intersection on Highway 61, observed the emergency vehicle approach and came to a stop as required to allow the emergency vehicle to proceed through the intersection.
Three other vehicles approached the Kia from behind, all colliding into the rear of each vehicle.
The vehicles involved were a Toyota Highlander, a Chevrolet Impala and a Ford truck.
The Chevrolet impala sustained extensive damage while the three other vehicles sustained moderate damages. There were no injuries reported.
The investigation is continuing.
