On Highway 17 in the Marathon/Manitouwadge area over the weekend, three drivers were charged for speeding 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit.
On Saturday, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg was nabbed going 151 km/h in 90 km/h zone.
Then yesterday, a 21-year-old male of Winnipeg was nabbed for the same speed while a 19-year-old male also was charged (residence and speed unknown).
Drivers are reminded that driving speeds of 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit face severe penalties, including:
•a mandatory seven-day licence suspension;
•a mandatory seven-day vehicle impoundment;
•a fine of $2,000 up to $10,000; and
•six licence demerit points.
As well, drivers are responsible for the tow and storage fee of the vehicle, as well as paying a driver’s licence re-instatement fee.
Racing or stunt driving also can include jumping a green light, wheelies, or even doing doughnuts.
The public is encouraged to contact police at 1-800-310-1122 whenever they suspect a driver is operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.
