‘Open mic’ planned

    Organizers of the Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s fall fair in Emo later this month are planning a new event to coincide with all the regular activities on the agenda.
    They’re calling it an “Open Mic” fundraiser, which will be held on both the Friday and Saturday night of the fair (Aug. 17-18) from 7-10 p.m. upstairs in the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre.
    “We’re inviting anyone who sings, plays, tells jokes—they’re more than welcome to come,” said RRVAS president Emily Watson.
    She noted there will be microphones already set up, but performers are able to bring their own equipment if they wish.

    “The whole purpose behind this is to fundraise for our new facility that we’re planning on,” Watson said, noting they are seeking funds to build a multi-use facility on the fairgrounds, which would replace some of the current buildings that no longer are in good shape.
    There will be a $2 admission charge per person to watch the talent showcase, with coffee, soft drinks, and food available for purchase.
    “It’ll be some light entertainment for people. They can come and go as they choose,” Watson remarked. “It’s not a late night, so they are more than welcome to bring their whole family.
    She stressed that like last year, the fall fair will be for families.
    “It’s all about families, so we’re trying to have as much as we can for families to do as a family unit,” she said.
