Students at Mine Centre School are winding up the year with lots of fun!
With the last day of school coming up next Wednesday (June 20), students are busy this week. On Monday, the grade one/two class headed to the stables at NORTRA for the experience of horseback riding. Yesterday, those aged nine to 12 travelled to Fort Frances to compete in the track and field meet at St. Francis.
Today (June 13), the kindergarten class travelled to Fort Frances for some play time at the park, a McDonald’s lunch, and then a tour of Gerber’s farm.
Also today, students in grades one-three travelled to Crossroads School in Devlin for a primary soccer tournament. The team has been practising hard and hopes to do well.
Good luck!

Congratulations to students in grades five-eight who competed at the track and field meet in Whitefish Bay last Thursday. Mine Centre swept the meet, winning in many events and breaking many records.
The coaches attributed some of the success to the morning fitness run at Mine Centre School, which enables students to be stronger in the track events than some of the other schools.

Last week’s brief on the D.A.R.E. graduation at Mine Centre School should have mentioned the essay contest winners.
D.A.R.E. lions were awarded to Keith Kabatay and Farrah Whitecrow while D.A.R.E. medals went to Alexis Whitecrow, Caitlin Johnson, Mary Johnson, and Chris Cupp.
Congratulations.

The “Shared Reading” students have struck again. This time, teachers Mrs. MacKinnon and Miss Pruys, along with education assistants Mrs. Perreault and Mrs. Riches, were the target.
The readers challenged the foursome that if they could read 2,309 books by the end of the school year, they would sit in a dunk tank and the students would have a chance to dunk them.
Well, as of last Friday, the group had read 2,538 books and it looks like some staff members are going to get wet! Organizers are planning to have the dunk tank set up as part of Play Day this Monday (June 18).
Family and friends are invited to come out and join in the fun.
