One new fire reported

There was one new forest fire confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.

Nipigon fire #9 has been declared out at 0.1 hectares and was located near Keemle Lake, approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Nipigon.

There are currently 16 active fires in the region. Four fires are not under control, two fires are under control, and ten fires are being observed.

Fires of note include Red Lake fire #23, which is located eight km south of the community of Keewaywin.

This fire is 96,535 ha. in size. Community sprinkler set-ups and maintenance are ongoing.

Crews are taking advantage of reduced fire behaviour to action hot spots on fingers of the fire perimeter by Dawson River.

The southern part of the fire near received 42mm of precipitation on Monday. The entire fire received an average of 15mm of precipitation.

Red Lake fire #39 has been remapped to 44,541 ha. in size. This fire is being managed by an incident management team.

Crews continue to establish hose line on the east flank tying into natural boundaries.

Firefighters are making their way along the north end of the fire establishing hose lines.

Crews are now being positioned onto the west side of the fire.

And Red Lake fire #40 is not under control at 30,212 ha. It is located near Nungesser Lake, approximately 40 km north of Red Lake.

Recent precipitation has assisted in suppression efforts. A total of 51 crews are assigned to the fire.
Crews continue to make great progress working hose lines along all sides of the fire.

The forest fire hazard in the Northwest Region is low to moderate with more rain in the forecast.
