One new fire was confirmed in the Northwest Region yesterday.
Fort Frances Fire #10, located on an island in Sunshine Lake near Atikokan, currently is “being held” at 0.1 hectares at last report.
Two other fires currently are active in the region, including one that is “being observed” in Red Lake District.
The other one is “under control” in Nipigon District.
The forest fire hazard is “low” in the southern portions of the region and “moderate” to “high” in the north.
In related news, 571 personnel from the Ministry of Natural Resources remain on assignment in Alberta, B.C., and the Northwest Territories to assist in forest fire management efforts there.
Ontario also is providing equipment, including 400 power pumps, 2,000 lengths of hose, and two values protection units to B.C.
Crews are working long hours and will be returning home after 14-19 days on deployment.
Another demobilization was scheduled for later yesterday.
