One new fire over weekend

No new fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday while there was only one new blaze Saturday.
Nipigon Fire #53 is a 116-hectare, lightning-caused blaze about 60 km southeast of Webequie.
No values are threatened, however, and it is listed as “being observed.”
Meanwhile, there are 31 active fires across the Northwest Region.
These include 16 in Nipigon District, seven in Red Lake District, seven in Sioux Lookout District, and one in Kenora District.
The effects of rain in the northern part of the region were short-lived and the forest fire hazard is now “high” there.
The central and southern portions of the region are in a “low-moderate” fire hazard, according to the MNR.
Rain is in the forecast, which is expected to help ease the fire hazard by mid-week.
But prior to that, some of the active fires in the region, particularly Red Lake Fire #1, will show a return to active fire behaviour.
