Like other schools in the district, Our Lady of the Way is participating in provincial testing, which will be sent to the EQAO for marking.
Since last week was Education Week, OLW held its annual book fair Wednesday and Thursday. This year, the school held a Christian book fair as well as the Scholastic Book Fair.
A variety of books in various categories were displayed for students to choose from.
In other news, the Rainy River Healthy Communities Coalition sponsored a nutrition contest at OLW. The JK/SK class were the winners of the participation draw and were treated to a healthy snack and veggie pizza.
Winners of other separate prizes included Andrew Yerxa (T-shirt), Cody Ossachuck and Dalton Lundgren (water bottle), and Kelsey Tesarsky, Dylan McDonald, Tim Sharp, Luc Desserre, Joshua Zimmerman, Kasey Tesarsky, Audrey Chojko-Bolec, Adrian Vandenbrand, Matthew Dumas, and Nathan Zimmerman (pencils).
The “Pennies For People” campaign was a success, raising $83. This collection, along with the monies raised from mission boxes and Share Lent Meal, is being sent to Holy Childhood.
OLW congratulates all students who participated in the recent district festival of the performing arts.
Results are as follows: Piano–Alexis Sharp (2nd), Tim Sharp (two 2nds), Alyshia Langlais (1st) Byron Sharp, Hailey Heyens (1st), Sonya Schulzki (1st & 2nd), and Jaime Vandenbrand (1st & 2nd).
A tree-planting ceremony was held in memory of Linda Huntley, and also was dedicated to retired teachers Lorraine Dryden, Marjorie Advent, Sr. Hilda Lang, Mary Curtis, and Mark Hyatt.
The following day, students pitched-in on a backwards/inside out day. Later in the afternoon, the JK/SK had a Mother’s Day tea during which time music festival participants performed at the occasion.
The next day, OLW had a Career Day
Concluding Education Week, students participated in the Jump Rope for Heart.
