Binesiwag Center for Wellness (BCW) appointed Mandi Olson, vice-chief executive officer, to the Ontario Social Workers and Social Service Workers Council — Electoral District 1- Social Service Workers last week.
Olson said she is excited to represent BCW, the community, and the resilient Folx she gets to support everyday.
“It’s an honour,” said Olson. “It’s an opportunity to bring forward the needs of our community to a provincial level and make changes that will forever impact our families today and into the future.”
Olson will be working closely with other elected officials across Ontario to develop policies to regulate the practice of social work. Her role will be to serve and protect the public interest, govern and manage the affairs of the college, and attend council meetings.
BCW is an Indigenous grassroots organization located in Southern Treaty 3 (Northwestern Ontario). The organization is focused on providing a variety of wellness services across the lifespan. Their intent is to alleviate current pressures on social service systems.
