Now you see it, now you don’t. Another Emo landmark bit the dust last Tuesday morning when Harold McQuaker Enterprises demolished the old clinic building on Robert Street.
It does bring back memories of the past when it served the community and surrounding areas with distinction under Dr. D.R. Young.
Once the new Red Cross hospital was in operation, Dr. Young bought the old property. He had the building demolished and on that lot he built a new home with attached clinic.
Betty O’Sullivan had lived in the home, and then a clothing store operated by Ann Wielinga occupied the house for a period.
After that it was rented out to different people. Last year, Peter VanHeyst purchased and property, moved the house to a lot at the west end of Emo.
The clinic, which was liveable, had several tenants, but it’s been empty for a long period. This year, Mr. VanHeyst decided it was about time to remove the old clinic–it was getting to be a sore eye.
On this corner lot of Front Street and Robert Street, the VanHyest family will be building their dream home.
It only took under an hour to demolish the facility, and the lot was cleared up the same day.
The clinic was a main stay of our health care. When the present hospital was built, the clinic staff moved over.
