The Ministry of Finance released its annual list of public sector employees who earned more than $100,000 in 2003.
Locally, the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Report contained some familiar names as well as some new ones.
Warren Hoshizaki, director of education for the Rainy River District School Board, earned a reported $160,507 in 2003—up from $134,760 in 2002.
Terry Ellwood, the board’s superintendent of education, and Laura Mills, its chief financial officer, earned $114,874 and $106,396, respectively.
New to the list this year were two people from the Northwest Catholic District School Board. Education Director John Madigan earned $113,087 last year while Superintendent of Business Chris Howarth earned $100,363.
Wayne Woods, CEO of Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc., earned $163,132.90 in 2003—up from $137,567.79 the year before.
The Town of Fort Frances reported no employees with salaries over $100,000.
Dr. Pete Sarsfield, the medical officer of health for the region and CEO of the Northwestern Health Unit, earned $167,512.67 last year while Kevin Holder, executive director of the Community Care Access Centre for the Kenora and Rainy River districts, earned $119,231.28.
Local MPP Howard Hampton had a reported income of $107,302.43 in 2003 while Premier Dalton McGuinty’s salary was listed at $135,249.98.
The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act applies to the provincial government, Crown agencies and corporations, and publicly-funded organizations such as hospitals, municipalities, school boards, universities, and colleges.
“Our government believes accountability and transparency are the best safeguards of public service,” Finance minister Greg Sorbara said in a press release last Wednesday.
The annual reports includes organizations that received transfer payments from the province of at least $1 million, or received 10 percent of their gross revenues from the province during the previous year (provided the transfer amount was $120,000 or more).
