Northern Ontario arts supported

Staff

Four northern arts organizations are recipients of a one-time cash injection from the Ontario government.

Yesterday, Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, announced $24 million, to be spread across 140 galleries, theatres, festivals and other organizations. In Northwestern Ontario, the De-ba-jeh-mu-jig Storytellers in Wikwemikong received $265,473. In Thunder Bay, Magnus Theatre received $135,228, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery received $125,438 and the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra received $230,534.

The purpose of the funds is to keep the organizations solvent and help them prepare for when they can fully re-open to patrons.

Additionally, $1 million will provide much-needed support directly to artists and creators from across the province. More information on this, including eligibility requirements and application deadlines, will be available soon on the Ontario Arts Council website.
