When it comes to breaking clay skeet targets, no one likes to leave them whole.
Just as certainly, Len Noonan, soon to turn 76, can’t stand to leave a target in any other way but a thousand pieces.
Consequently, Noonan has dominated the annual fall classic shoot-off at the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club skeet field.
And he did so again on Sunday, Sept. 16, leaving the other nine shooters to sit back in awe as he resumed his reign of the Hiram Walker Championship.
Despite the wind playing tricks with the targets during the four “rounds” of 25 (100 shots in total), Noonan was able to win with a score of 92.
Former champion Jeremy McGuire finished in second place just two points behind.
Rick Johnson (86), Ted Brockie (85), Kevin Bone (79), Mike Veniot (79), and Greg Hartlin (72) were close behind, with strong showings by relative newcomers Bill Bone, Dan DeGagne, and Zac Manty.
McGuire went home two-fisted from the day with the Dave Forrester Memorial Trophy for the highest overall score for the season (thanks to countless 22s, 23s, and 24s) as well as the coveted R.J. “Bob” Kennedy award to the individual dedicating their time to the advancement of local skeet shooting.
