No new fires reported in region

All remained quiet on the fire front yesterday with no new fires reported in the West Fire Region.
There are three active fires in the region—one each in Fort Frances District, Thunder Bay District, and Red Lake District—which continue to be monitored by fire managers.
These fires are being managed to realize ecological benefits associated with forest fires as per Ontario’s Forest Fire Management Strategy and the approved fire management and response plans for these areas.
Crews in the region are training for safe chainsaw handling, and on work assignments with other programs and agencies.
The MNR reminds the public that daytime burning of brush or grass is not allowed under the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario.
Burning of brush or grass should be done no sooner than two hours before sunset and it must be put it out no later than two hours after sunrise.
Choose a safe site, keep your fire small, and never leave it unattended. Remember to ensure the fire is put dead out before leaving the site.
If you live in a municipality, check local bylaws for any burning restrictions that may apply.
