No new fires reported

It was a quiet day in the West Fire Region yesterday despite rising fire hazards across the northern portions of the region.
No new fires were reported, but crews were busy across the region as they worked through values protection exercises, crew audits for safety and fire suppression techniques, and participation in crew training events and other work assignments.
There are five active fires in the region, located in the districts of Fort Frances, Kenora, Nipigon, Red Lake, and Sioux Lookout.
Detection aircraft are flying patrols across the high hazard areas of the region and flying reconnaissance over the active fires.
Under the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario, day burning of brush or grass is not allowed.
Burning of brush or grass should be done no sooner than two hours before sunset and it must be put it out no later than two hours after sunrise.
Choose a safe site, keep your fire small, and never leave it unattended. Remember to ensure the fire is put dead out before leaving the site.
If you live in a municipality, check local bylaws for any burning restrictions that may apply.
