Nipigon sees 25th fire of season

The Ministry of Natural Resources reported one new fire in the region yesterday—Nipigon #25, located northwest of the community of Eabametoong.
There are no problems anticipated with this fire, with two crews on site and heli-bucketing support.
Meanwhile, Red Lake #14 was declared “under control” yesterday. Crews will use infrared scanning equipment to pinpoint hotspots within the interior of the blaze.
The 800-hectare Nipigon #20 also is “under control,” with personnel gearing down that operation.
There currently are nine active fires in the region—two in Nipigon District, four in Red Lake District, one in Sioux Lookout District, and two in Thunder Bay District.
In the entire region, there has been a total of 195 fires to date since April 1, burning 1,107.6 ha.
