A new yoga studio in International Falls will be offering two free classes each Thursday during the month of March.
These classes will be offered at the Rainy Waters Yoga studio, located in Room 208 of the AB/Backus Complex at 900 5th St.
The classes are designed to increase strength, improve balance and flexibility, and teach effective ways to find relief from the stress and strain of everyday life.
The owner of the studio is Heather von Ruden of International Falls.
A yoga practitioner for more than 10 years, von Ruden has completed the in-class portion of a Hatha Yoga teacher training program at the Yoga North studio in Duluth.
This program is designed to fulfill the 200-hour requirement for national certification with Yoga Alliance, an international organization that sets standards for and certifies Registered Yoga Teachers.
“I have some administrative work left to do to complete my training program, and the certification process takes four-six weeks,” noted von Ruden.
“I hope to be a certified RTY by summer.”
The training von Ruden received at Yoga North consisted of classes in postures, adjustments, physiology and anatomy, breath work, teaching methodology, student-teacher relationship, meditation, and the chakra system.
She feels the program provided a wealth of knowledge and experience that will give her a positive start in her new studio.
“I am grateful for the teachings that I encountered at Yoga North and excited to bring them to more people in the community,” von Ruden remarked.
“Yoga is becoming increasingly popular as people across the country are discovering the many benefits it provides,” she noted.
More than 17 million Americans practice yoga regularly and medial research is proving what those practitioners know to be true—yoga can improve overall health and well-being.
Classes will begin tomorrow (March 6).
In addition to offering an Introduction to Yoga class on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:10 p.m., von Ruden also will offer a Hatha 1 class.
This class—for men and women with some yoga experience—will be offered Tuesdays at 6:10 p.m. and Thursdays at 5 p.m.
To encourage people to try yoga at the new studio, there will be no charge for the Thursday classes in March.
“I really hope that offering classes free of charge will encourage people to try yoga,” said von Ruden. “You don’t need any special equipment or clothing, and mats are provided by the studio.
“Just come in comfortable clothes and give it a try,” she added. “I think you will find, what I have, that practising yoga just makes you feel better.”
