New technology for Stratton sales barn

Cattle producers in Northwestern Ontario will benefit from technology improvements at the Stratton sales barn.
The Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association will receive $23,450 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. to buy and install electronic identification equipment for its sales facility in the Township of Morley.
This identification technology helps keep track of cattle to validate food safety and quality, and is increasingly required in domestic and international livestock markets.
“Northern Ontario has a vibrant beef industry that is larger than that of any Atlantic province,” noted Northern Development and Mines minister Michael Gravelle, who also chairs the NOHFC.
“I am pleased that our government is helping livestock producers in the Rainy River area remain competitive,” he added.
The investment announced last Wednesday (Feb. 20) is in addition to an NOHFC contribution of $74,000 announced back in July, which was used to upgrade the cattle sales building and site.
NOHFC initiatives are part of the provincial government’s “Northern Prosperity Plan” for building stronger northern communities.
