New OPP station to open

While Rainy River OPP moved into its new station back in June, a grand opening will be held Sept. 19 when OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface comes to visit.
Commissioner Boniface, along with OPP Supt. Al Dawson, North West regional commander, and members of other district detachments will do the ribbon-cutting at 9:30 a.m.
Fort Frances OPP S/Sgt. Hugh Dennis said the new building is a great improvement over the old one.
“The old building was a converted garage, it was in terrible condition. It was in no shape to house our staff,” he remarked.
“The new one is a modern building that meets today’s policing standards,” added S/Sgt. Dennis on the $1-million-plus project.
The new station, located on the same site as the previous one, also includes holding cells. It took about six months to build.
In related news, a new interview room and a detective constable’s office have been added to the Fort Frances OPP detachment, with more to come.
“We’re very happy with them,” said S/Sgt. Dennis.
The next renovations will include new bathrooms, replaced ceiling tiles, and new flooring.
