Three new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
Two were located in Sioux Lookout District while the other was in Nipigon District.
Sparked by lightning, all three were listed as “not under control” at last report.
Six new fires were reported in the region by day’s end Saturday, none of which occurred in Fort Frances District.
There are now 143 active fires in the region.
The forest fire hazard is “low” to “moderate” across most of the region, with a “high” to “extreme” hazard in the north of Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts.
Resources from Quebec and the U.S. arrived last week to provide support to Ontario during its escalated forest fire situation caused by multiple fire starts from lightning strikes.
But due to a recent easing of the fire situation in Ontario over the past few days, resources can be provided to support the emergency forest fire situation in British Columbia.
There are 117 personnel from Ontario currently in B.C. providing structural protection, fire investigation, public information, and firefighting support.
There also is equipment there, including 10,000 lengths of hose, pump kits, and two structural protection units.
As part of normal rotation of staff deployed out-of-province, Ontario personnel also will be returning from assignment in B.C. this week.
